Consumers Beware: More Than 60K Nissan and Infiniti SUVs Face Recall Over Software Glitch That Disables Backup Cameras
Drivers of several Nissan and Infiniti SUVs may soon receive recall notices after a technology glitch raised safety concerns tied to rearview camera functionality. Nissan is recalling more than 60,000 vehicles after discovering that a software problem could prevent the rearview camera image from appearing when the vehicle is shifted into Reverse.
According to Cars.com, the recall affects model-year 2025 Nissan Armada and Murano SUVs, along with model-year 2025 and 2026 Infiniti QX80 models. Infiniti is Nissan’s luxury division. According to the company, the issue stems from a software error in the In-Vehicle Infotainment system that can occur during vehicle startup. When the malfunction happens, the rearview camera display may fail to activate, limiting rear visibility for the driver.
Rearview cameras are a federally required safety feature, and a failure to display the image increases the risk of crashes, especially in tight spaces or areas with pedestrians. Nissan says it is addressing the issue by updating the infotainment system software. The fix will be provided free of charge and can be completed either at a dealership or through an over-the-air update, depending on the vehicle.
Owners will be notified by mail by January 9, 2026. In the meantime, drivers with questions can contact Nissan at 800-647-7261 or Infiniti at 800-662-6200. Nissan’s recall reference numbers are R25D6, R25D5 and R25D7.
Additional information is available through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Vehicle owners can call the agency’s safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and review recall details.
As software continues to play a larger role in vehicle safety systems, recalls like this highlight how digital errors can have real-world consequences on the road.
