General Hospital Preview Week December 29: Honoring Luke Spencer’s Legacy in Port Charles

General Hospital (GH) spoilers for the week of December 29-January 2 reveal the ABC soap will honor Luke Spencer’s time in Port Charles in light of Anthony Geary’s recent passing.

GH released its weekly promo video, which focuses on the iconic Daytime Emmy winner and his impact on the soap opera.

The preview opens with Luke at the docks in PC, as a voiceover invites fans to join the show for a special encore episode celebrating the unforgettable legacy of Tony Geary and Luke Spencer.

The promo closes with Luke looking onward from the docks, as he says, “Goodbye, Port Charles.”

The tribute show will air during General Hospital’s regular time slot on ABC this Thursday, January 1.

The episode originally aired in July 2015, and, at the time, this was to be the final General Hospital episode that Geary participated in before he retired from the soap opera world.

Of course, Luke returned for a brief cameo on GH in May 2017 during an episode where Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) left Port Charles.

A video clip showed Tracy running into Luke in Europe, ready to live out their “happily ever after” in Amsterdam, which was a nice way to wrap up Tracy’s story at that point.

Geary passed away on Sunday, December 14, at the age of 78.

The actor joined General Hospital in 1978 and won a record eight Daytime Emmy awards during his tenure as Luke Spencer in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series category.

Geary experienced a tremendous amount of popularity as one half of the super couple phenomenon, Luke and Laura (Collins – Genie Francis).

Their wedding, which took place November 16-17, 1981, became a historic daytime television event, garnering 30 million viewers to become the highest-rated hour in American soap opera history.

General Hospital spoilers note that the week of December 29-January 2 will spotlight additional stories, as Drew Cain’s (Cameron Mathison) shooting case continues to take center stage; however, January 1 will also offer viewers a chance to reflect on the life of an incredible actor and soap character.
