In tonight’s The Voice episode, they opened the Live finale with “Lights” by Journey. The cast of this past season all came together to perform with Journey themselves and they sounded amazing.
Yet, the real battle tonight was between the coaches. Especially Michael and Niall. They’ve both won two in a row. It was their first time competing against each other. It’s tonight that will determine who the better coach was. It will also name one of them the champion. It wasn’t all about the artists at this stage. They were all great at what they do.
No shade or anything. They were well-loved. America has even chosen a few to come back more than once. It just didn’t change the fact that none would have made it thus far without their coach.
They survived Battles as well as the Knockouts thanks to their coach. Niall’s Season 23 winner Gina Myles came back just for him. She and Aidan Ross got to perform together. They sang “Last Christmas” by Wham! Tis the season after all. The duets were all Christmas themed. Niall would normally perform a duet with one of his artists and he couldn’t tonight.
Nor did he sing the opener. Its okay though because Gina was the next best thing. She still sounded like perfection. She might even have performed better than Aidan.
Aidan was still growing into his performances. He sounded great. The issue was that the man didn’t know what to do with his hands when he was performing. It’s the curse of duets. You either sing together or sing in parts. They sang in parts. He then started that awkward swinging we all do with his arms and that’s because you get a little bored when its not your turn to sing.
Aidan was simply nervous. Everyone could tell. Thankfully, he still gave a strong performance. The night was full of them. There was a performance from POP sensation, Khalid.
Khalid cut his hair. He looked amazing both with the high top and without it so no change there. He performed “Better”/ “Nah” tonight. He was then followed by Michael’s duet with Jazz McKenzie. They sang “Jingle Bell Rock”. Another classic. They also performed together so that there were no bored moments.
There were more returning artists. Sofronio Vasquez was Season 26’s winner and he performed his song “Superman”. Which was very touching. It was always great to hear from Sofronio. Music from tonight can be found online. There was a performance from Country musician, Riley Green. He performed “Jesus Saves” with just him and the guitar. The lights were low. He was surrounded by lights on the ground to imitate candles. It was a performance that stuck with you no matter what genre you prefer.
Sticking with Country, Reba was up next with her artist Aubrey Nicole. They performed a duet of “Mary, Did You Know?”. It was one of Reba’s all time favorite Christmas songs. Now she was singing it with Aubrey. Aubrey loved doing this. She fully geeked out over it. They also sung to each other. It made the moment feel like a duet. Much like Michael and Jazz performing together had. Maybe the problem with Aidan’s stemmed from the fact he was expecting Niall. And he got someone else instead.
Snoop then had his duet with Ralph Edwards. Snoop was a surprise. It’s been so long that people tend to forget he didn’t just rap. He can also sing pretty darn well. He managed to hold his own with Ralph. Remember Ralph was dubbed “the voice” this season. He was an exceptional talent. Snoop came out of his comfort zone just to do a duet of “This Christmas” with him. They sounded great together. They also looked great onstage together.
Then it was the night’s first Wild Card. Max Chambers got to perform with Michael. Everyone tonight got to wear ugly Christmas sweaters and take photos with their coaches. If nothing else, they’ll always have that to hold onto. Max was one of the lucky ones with being a Wild Card. It showed America was willing to do anything to keep him and now his night has gotten even better after his duet with Michael. They performed “Blue Christmas” and Max more than held his own. This was a bluesy song and Max went toe to toe with the great Michael Bublé.
There was a performance from the girl pop group called XG. It was their tv debut. They performed their song “Gala”. They were Japanese. Their song was partially in Japanese only they were giving the K-Pop women a run for their money. J-Pop might be the new thing of 2026.
DEK Of Hearts were also supposed to have a duet with their coach. With Niall under the weather, they traded up. They got to perform with Reba. They sang “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town”. They put a country spin on it. Though Reba’s voice stood out. She performed with the trio and they couldn’t really be heard or get into that beautiful harmonizing they do. They were the second Wild Card this season. They got the votes last week to stay and so now they just got to keep them. Voting was live all throughout tonight.
There was a final performance from the celebrities. The performed with Noah Cyrus. They performed their song “Butterfly”. It was a great song about acceptance. Something the world needs more of.
The results later came in. The third place winner was DEK of Hearts. The second place winner was Ralph Edwards. The winner of Season 28 was Aidan Ross! He beat the man dubbed “the voice” and now he’s a part of the show’s history. It was also Niall who walking away with the bragging rights! Niall was three for three!
THE END!
