In tonight’s FBI episode, Susan Granwell was found murdered in her home. She was a friend of the Mayor’s. They reportedly go way back. She was also a huge donor to his campaign. Susan was old money and her late husband started a chain of expensive boutique hotels. Jubal has been to one.
There was a menu for the pillow. Jubal also mentioned that Susan lived in twelve million dollar home. This one seemed to rubbing a sore spot for him and yet Isobel reminded the team of what their goal was. They were looking for a killer. They were trying to bring justice to Susan’s loved ones.
This ended up including one of her biggest adversaries. Susan was in a labor dispute with her staff. They wanted more pay. The one leading the negotiations was the union guy by the name of Jeremy Payton. Payton seemed like a great suspect until they found out he was secretly engaged to Susan.
Their relationship began during the negations. He even proposed to her with his grandmother’s heirloom ring. The thing was insured for nearly a million dollars. It was also missing when they found Susan’s body.
There weren’t a lot of people that knew about the ring. The engagement was still fresh. Susan’s parents took their grandson on a trip to Tokyo. They left before her death and the FBI was having a hard time getting in contact with them. Still, there was one other person to see the ring up close.
He took the photo of Bobby with his mom and new stepdad. The person that took the photo was Bobby’s tutor, Lucas Williams. He was about the same age as Jubal’s son. He wanted to believe this kid wasn’t involved and all the evidence pointed that way.
Lucas wasn’t in school. They tried calling his dad. They couldn’t reach him because they later found him dead at his home. Frank Williams was the second body they’ve found connected to Lucas.
They figured he broke into Susan’s home to rob her when she surprised them. Susan was a registered gun owner. The gun was even in her hand when she was hit by a cast iron skillset. The thief surprised her. Lucas surprised her because he was later found with the ring in his possession trying to sell it at a pawn shop.
Lucas claimed his sister had been abducted. She was being held for ransom. He has to pay to get her back and the only person he knew had the money was Susan. Lucas was a smart kid. He had a scholarship at a great school, but he didn’t use those smarts for the right reasons. He stole money.
He heard about a bitcoin phishing scam. He would send a link for people to click on and it would put all of their bitcoin into his account. He desperately needed the money because his father was fired a couple of years ago. And hasn’t worked since.
They were about to lose the house. Lucas didn’t want his fifteen year old sister to be homeless. He used the scam and it was mostly little bites at first until he hit the big one.
He got 315,000 dollars from one account. The account proved to be a front for Bratva. The Russian mob. The person in charge of the New York chain happened to be an old friend of Jubal’s. His name is Andrei Ovechkin. Jubal’s father was once in the State Department and they were stationed in Moscow for two years. Andrei was his best friend.
They stayed in contact all the way up until the Soviet Union fell. Jubal had known that Andrei joined Bratva to survive. He just thought he might’ve died or gone to prison.
Andrei instead rose up through the ranks. He was in charge. It meant he was important to Moscow. Jubal found out where he was and he visited. They spoke. Andrei claimed to have nothing to do with the missing girl. He said it was an open season on the boy. The whole internet knows this kid stole money and he wouldn’t let anyone know that Lucas stole from them.
Jubal believed him. He believed in him before he ever visited him. His gut instinct said Andrei wasn’t involved. He felt more sure of that after their conversation.
Someone had doxxed Lucas online. Her name is Whitney Kabalis. She ran a site when she doxxed people for stealing bitcoin. She gave their full names as well as how much they stole. She also gave them an idea on how to find whoever was behind the account that was demanding ransom. It wasn’t Bratva. It was a kid trying to get noticed by them that was behind this.
They abducted Faith to get back the mafia’s money. They wanted to be running it one day. Andrei later found out about it and he told Jubal. He also helped Jubal in conducting a meeting with the kidnappers.
The guy in charge stabbed Andrei because he wanted to be leading Bratva one day. He got arrested. His partner got shot in the leg. Faith was still alive and her story remains a sad one. There is no happy ending for her. Faith will most likely enter foster care now that both parents are gone. And her old brother was going to prison for manslaughter.
It wasn’t fair, but Jubal at least met with Andrei again and he got to relive some of the best moments of his childhood.
THE END!
